Opened in 1960, Kyunghee Girls’ Middle School
has strived over the past 60+ years
to develop students into happy and competent
democratic citizens with good character based on
Kyunghee’s spirit of academic legacy and peace,
strongly supported by the school’s faculty members
The school uses Teams
as its main platform for operation and classes
In addition, it utilizes OneNote,
electronic notebooks designed for classes,
and Minecraft Education along with PowerPoint and Excel
Kyunghee Girls' Middle School introduced Surface Go 3
through the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education's
"Dibud"(Digital Buddy) program,
which was first launched in 2022,
and all 7th graders are now using Surface Go 3
The school chose the Surface device
over other options because
it is optimized for Teams,
lightweight for students’ mobility,
and its sleek design
is favored by the students
When the new semester started online
due to the COVID-19 pandemic,
most of our classes were conducted through Microsoft Teams
First, the school imports Microsoft Forms
Forms into Teams by using Forms
as an attendance book
to reach out to students late for the virtual classes
via chat or call feature
and giving a pop quiz
during online classes on VOD(video-on-demand) system
In our opinion, the most significant advantage of Teams
is that it allows real-time communication when giving feedback
for each assignment and classroom activity
Regardless of each student’s location,
Teams enables an active online discussion
on the speaker’s presentation or any topics,
greatly contributing to free debate
and communication among students
The school uses Minecraft Education
as part of its free-year Metaverse class
In the virtual world of Metaverse, the students can create
structures according to their imagination,
whereas building and destroying structures
is challenging in the real world
Bringing a gaming environment into the classroom
inspires creativity and engages
students in learning in a space
they like and are already familiar with
The students also understand the importance of collaboration
by working with their peers in the same virtual space
OneNote is a powerful interactive classroom tool
that allows teachers to efficiently distribute
and manage handouts,
enabling students to organize their inboxes
for systemically delivered assignments
Some students prefer to use
a digital pen, while others use the keyboard
to do their assignments
Being compact, portable,
and writing-enabled,
Surface Go is the perfect tool
for projects with a learning environment
that is steadily evolving into
an even more interactive setting in and outside the classrooms
Students use Surface Go 3’s built-in camera
to photograph scenes, objects, and phenomena in and out of school,
making their assignments more diversified and comprehensible
This makes the students better understand the context of their learning
and gives them a sense of accomplishment for their work
Kyunghee Girls’ Middle School students
now experience team-based clubs and collaboration
in a cloud-based Microsoft 365 environment
and have the freedom to learn
and complete assignments with Surface devices,
showing their creativity and expression to the fullest
