Availability, safety, and expense reduction: FRAM Capital undergoes digital transformation with Microsoft tools

With support from partner company Microsoft CloudData, FRAM Capital, an investment manager, implemented an integrated ecosystem based on Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure, and the use of Microsoft Sentinel for security. The solution was easily implemented by the financial market’s familiarity with the tools, and there was an increase from 25 to 100 users with no additional infrastructure costs.

FRAM Capital

In 2007, leading executives in the formation of the country’s leading investment banks joined their experiences in resource management and conducting business to found FRAM Capital, an independent resource manager that, in 2013, diversified its area of practice, also working with fiduciary management.

As is typical of the financial market, considering the security and availability of its systems for the smooth running of its operations, the company's first steps were taken with a significant investment in physical technological infrastructure already at its foundation.

In 2017, the company gained knowledge of cloud technologies, having noticed maturity in this solution and the possibility of a digital transformation. In the period, it also handled the increase from 25 to 100 employees and, in partnership with CloudData, a Microsoft partner company, opted to expand its journey.

Microsoft as the ideal partner for the financial market

“The core of the financial market operation business is Windows-based, the entire operation and databases are SQL, and the main player we have as a software partner also uses Microsoft,” explains Elton Bordim, Founding Partner of CloudData.

In 2017, Microsoft 365 was implemented, taking into account security, availability, and compliance issues, with a focus on the email service, Microsoft Exchange, and important end-user tools such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. Over time, the solution has been better leveraged with SharePoint for online file storage, Power BI as a business intelligence tool, and Power Automate, a low code tool that is used to automate processes.

In 2019, to improve information governance, management, and the pursuit of a more flexible and less costly framework, FRAM migrated to Microsoft Azure with the implementation of Microsoft Sentinel – which provided visibility and security across the environment with monitoring and responses to various types of infrastructure threats.

“Financial market professionals have a lot of adherence to Microsoft’s products,” says Bordim. “They already know what they intend to use from each feature. The process, from implementation to flow operation, was quick and very transparent for the company to use all Microsoft resources.”

Benefits of an available, secure, and integrated system

The company has built an architecture with industry-leading products, such as Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Azure Sentinel, and Dynamics 365, and generated greater efficiency when combined – through Microsoft Integration Services. The solution is a trusted cloud and innovation platform from Microsoft, implemented through an accelerated and intelligent digital transformation.

“We had a very big improvement in service availability and, consequently, in security,” says Roberto Adib, partner at FRAM Capital who is responsible for Operations and Technology. “The company has grown a lot, and infrastructure investment has been virtually zero since we joined the cloud operation. We went from 25 to 100 employees without increasing investment.”

Adib adds that the end-user in the financial market is used to tools like Microsoft Excel and that relying on them in the same ecosystem is an important asset for teams to embrace new technologies. “Our satisfaction is very high,” he adds. “We’ve replaced tools to be able to work in the cloud, and when it’s all integrated with Microsoft it works really well. Having this ease is something very positive.”

In this period of transformation, also stemming from the pandemic, FRAM Capital is working to further enhance its level of security to enable worry-free remote or hybrid work scenarios.

“Financial market professionals have a lot of adherence to Microsoft’s products, they already know what they intend to use from each feature.”
