About
Mawo Kamakura is a founding member and Deputy Director of Microsoft Research Asia – Tokyo, where she works to establish and grow Microsoft Research’ lab in Tokyo, Japan. She also serves as Microsoft Research Accelerator Japan Manager, overseeing research-driven collaborations across the country. Her role includes fostering partnerships with leading academic institutions, industries, and startups to accelerate innovation and scientific discovery. She leads initiatives to develop and promote academic programs that nurture top research talent and strengthen alumni networks. She also contributes to business development efforts grounded in world-class AI research. Mawo joined Microsoft Research in 2017. Prior to that, she was a Project Researcher at The University of Tokyo. She was selected Research Fellowship for Young Scientist (DC1) – awarded as an excellent young researcher and a visiting research student at King’s College London, UK as Excellent Young Researcher by Japanese Society for Promotion Science (JSPS).
